Shiraz 2017Â
South Australia
94pts Halliday Wine Companion | Boutique Producer
From the long and cool 2017 vintage comes a South Aussie shiraz that is moving into a drinking window that you’ll want to be a part of. The drinking, that is. It’s floral and full of berries on the nose - all lavender and cherries. The richness on the nose is matched on the palate, with the addition of plum and puckering cranberry. The richness is nestled in a medium-body, so this is the perfect wine for all sorts of dishes. Halliday’s Wine Companion gave it 94 points, all completely deserved - it is great quality wine!

We’ve got a mate down in SA who’s so very versatile. He makes wines from vineyards across the state and always delivers the goods. Here’s a shiraz off a single block in Langhorne Creek that’s silky smooth with violets and plum on the nose, trailed by blackberry, spice and a bit of tannin on the palate. It’s plump and juicy, easy to drink, and laced with enough acidity to complement an array of dishes. And if you are left with any doubt, have a glance at its trophy cabinet. Stunning!

Sparkling Shiraz
Victoria
Five Star Halliday Rated Winery
Who doesn’t love sparkling shiraz? Rich, sweet and full of bubbles! This Non-vintage fizz utilises wines going back ten years and as a result is a beautifully rich wine, with plush red and purple fruits. The dosage was a fortified wine which adds to the richness and complexity. Buying this wine is not the question - it’s what dish will you drink it with? We’d say Peking Duck Pancakes or a glazed ham hock to add to the rich and delicious experience.

Cabernet 2016Â
McLaren Vale, SA
92pts James Halliday | Special Value Award - James Halliday | 5 Star Halliday rated winery
This is a jaw-dropping value delight from a Vale winery many a mofo has fallen in love with. This wine is built to entertain; its reason for being is to let the good times roll. A fifth of the grapes in this delicious cabernet were dried before pressing in the Italian appassimento style. Not all that common in a cabernet, but it certainly does the job! Think jubilant, ripe fruit flavours with plushness to spare. A solid sprinkling of tannin keeps the edges in check and dribble-inducing flavours of liquered Morello cherry and chocolate abound. Cabernet grapes never lack acidity, and this duly brings the goods. Yummy, fun stuff!

Pinot Noir 2018
Yarra Valley, VIC
This pinot inspires a love/hate relationship in me. I love the bright juicy fruit with the gentle earthiness and soft, easy tannin. I hate that a dozen sounds like enough, and then by week three you’re down to your last bottle. Be warned, mofo. You will definitely notice your friends swinging by more often once they’ve quaffed a glass or two of this with you. It’s just deliciously easy drinking, and made by a living Yarra legend. Bright cherries and strawberries, with just a sparkle of tannin for shape. It’s not Grand Cru Burgundy, it’s way more yummy.Â

Corvina 2018
Veneto, Italy
For those that geek out on Italian varieties, you’ll probably recognise corvina as the grape used to make the legendary Amarone della Valpolicella. Amarone is a massive, dense, long-lived red that goes through a special process of drying the grapes to maximise concentration. What you might not know is that when corvina is made into wine using more conventional methods, the results are quite different. The wine is bright with big, crunchy red fruits, heaps of spice and very soft tannins. It’s delicious, slurpable easy going. Who knew?

What is a Black Market deal?
Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.
