Why do we love this case?

Psst, you there! Yeah you! Stop looking around, you’re acting suspicious. You’re here for the Black Market wines, aren’t you? Yeah, that’s this box here. Don’t worry they’re all 100% legit, we’re just doing our winemaker mates a favour by not shouting their names from the rooftops. We don’t want to upset anyone, just cause we give you the best prices.

Each case contains TWO bottles of:

Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Great Southern, WA

This is lovely cabernet for the money. Lean, bright and tastefully structured, it hits all the right notes at all the right times. Blackberry, mulberry and softly-spoken coffee ground aromatics make for some lovely easy drinking. It finishes long and elegant. There’s plenty going on, but it won’t make you feel guilty for cracking on a weeknight. It’s indulgent, but measured.

Chardonnay 2018

Pays d’Oc, France

91pts Wine Orbit | Vegan Friendly

This snappy little chardonnay is from the Haute Vallee of Limoux which are the cooler sites that grow the best for Chardonnay in the region. Winemaking is simple with only 20% oaked in (of course) French wood. The wine is light, but with hints of power from a core of stone fruit. Very enjoyable indeed.

Shiraz 2013

Padthaway, South Australia

97pts Winestate | Killer Vintage | Women in Wine

From the little-known corner of South Australia, somewhere along the Riddoch Highway, comes this exceptional value shiraz. It’s absolutely jam-packed with stewed fruit, chocolate and licorice. Super-concentrated powerful flavour that packs a real punch, softened only by the gentle complexity of bottle age. It’s carried on the back of bright acidity, lifting blackberries, bramble, black cherry and prosciutto notes alike to a long and delectable finish. This has to be up there in terms of best value buys. Whether you’re shopping for a pantry-stocking quaffer or something to share with the family over Sunday lunch, this is a great value contender with a foot in both camps.

YOU’D PAY $25 full price.

Riesling 2019

Coonawarra, South Australia

96pts Winestate | Gold medal Australia Boutique Wine Show

It’s ok, mofo, we get it. A dual-region riesling is not the most common arrangement. But to not try it once in your life is to miss out on wonderful cool minerality, juicy, vibrant lime and glorious floral notes of jasmine and acacia. Besides, a winemaker of this calibre definitely knows what they’re doing. Riesling expresses terroir like no other white, and this one is a magnificent mosaic blend of two of the finest. Turn your nose up at your peril. This is a bottleful of magic.

YOU’D PAY $25 full price.

Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Adelaide Hills, South Australia

93pts Wine Orbit | Mofo Favourite

This fresh and vibrant sauvignon blanc comes from one of the masters of Hills whites. They have a vineyard covering all sorts of varieties, from which they make vibrant wines with care and precision. You can almost feel those fresh Hills mornings spring out of the glass as you pull the bottle from the fridge and pour this wine. Zesty acidity and crisp green apple is balanced by passionfruit and floral notes. The wine is super-approachable and just what you’d expect from such a great producer.

YOU’D PAY $22 full price.

Malbec 2018

Mendoza, Argentina

This wine shows the fresher side of Malbec. Still perfectly ripe, with the colour and power you’d expect from Argentina, but with no oak, it doesn’t need any food to accompany. It’s medium-bodied, red-fruited, juicy and simply delicious.

YOU’D PAY $22 full price.

What is a Black Market deal?

Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.
