5 Red Star Halliday rated producer

“Every day of the week I’d go with a GSM over a more affordable pinot. I think you just get a much better wine. The three just have such a beautiful synergy together. The grenache you get those kind of beautiful, plush, gentle, perfumed fruit – I guess it’s more blue fruits. The shiraz is obviously delicious and spicy an I could be be wrong, but i think the mourvedre adds quite a bit to this blend like in previous vintages. You get that dark, savoury component to the wine which really just keeps a little serious and honest.” - Seb, Mofo Wine Broker

5 Star Producer – James Halliday

Willunga is on fire. Willunga is on fire. We don’t need no water let the mofo burn. Burn, mofo, burn. Whoops – got carried away there, sorry y’all, but once Wine Buyer John told me the folk at Willunga 100 are on fire, I just couldn’t get that song out of my head. Let me quickly clarify, we don’t actually want to burn Willunga 100 to the ground. We may not need water, but we sure as hell need wine from the these guys. Even if, hypothetically, we did want to burn Willunga 100 to the ground (and I repeat, hypothetically) I reckon we’d run into some serious resistance from the thousands of mofos who love the wines they’re putting out. This is a dark, velvety drop: think black cherries, dark chocolate and rum dancing around your mouth. Once you taste it, the only thing burning will be your desire for more Willunga vino delivered to your door.

Dense

A tangle of luscious fruit from two exceptional Vale vineyards, this seductive GSM has been handcrafted to capture and express the freshness of a region we absolutely adore. Guided by the pure thoughts of Richard and Malcolm, each variety brings its own beauty to the Orgy, to create a whole lotta love that is greater than the sum of its parts. I’m talking about a wine that wraps itself around your tongue with spicy red and black fruits, a smattering of savoury earthiness, a squeeze of racy acidity, velvety tannins and a long, satisfying finish. Like the white hot love of a new relationship, you’re going to find it hard to keep your hands off this slinky little scorcher.

Robert Parker
French import

This ‘15 Frenchy hails from the South but will feel right at home in your mouth. It’s a full-bodied vino, a heavyweight champ that clocked up 93 points from Robert Parker to match its dark, jammy fruits. Spice, herbs, cherries mix in the glass, creating a “deep and layered” wine with “incredible texture”. Parker reckons he’d gladly pay three to four times the going rate, but we’ve managed to halve that rate for you mofos so go forth and prosper properly – with an armful of wine.

Robert Parker
French import

Domaine Courtois are a family-owned estate now headed by Pascal and Richard, who took over from their father Claude (so bloody French), and it seems the future is in very decent hands. This blend of grenache and syrah is repping an amazingly high review for its price. There’s a cheeky little dash of mourvèdre in there too and it really is cracking, cracking booze, rated 91 points by Robert Parker. Lots of dark berry fruits accompany soft tannins and a good amount of acidity. It is, as Parker says, simply a “a wine of good structure with good Southern Rhône characters.”

We love an underdog story here at the ‘Fo, and the Cave de Roquebrun crew winning Red Winemaker of the Year is right up there with J.K Rowling writing Harry Potter and Leicester winning the Premier League. After bagging a whole heap of other awards (too many to list here), the big wine dogs that be began taking notice of this boutique southern France wine team. And they loved what they found. Like this gold medal-winning, spicy, earthy, bright shiraz blend.
