Why do we love this case?

You may have seen one of our fabled 95+ point packs in the past. Well, mofo, we’ll do you one better. The requirements are stricter, the bar has been raised, the threshold is tougher still. There aren’t many wines in the world that’d make it into this pack. This is hallowed ground indeed. 96+ points, mofos. We’re breathing rarified air up here.

Every case contains ONE of each of the following:

This is the first GSM in Pirramimma’s Ironstone range. The grapes come off the 75-year-old War Horse vineyard in the Vale. These are gnarly old dry grown vines that have to push their roots through two layers of ironstone (hence the name) to reach their nutrients. This causes extremely low yields and an extremely high concentration of flavour. The blend is 60% grenache, 35% shiraz and 5% mourvèdre. On the nose you’ll find mulberry, plum, blackberry and nutmeg, while the palate adds raspberry, cranberry, blood plum and pomegranate. The wine is concentrated but nuanced, lively but dark in fruit. Not too shabby for grapes off some old gnarly vines.

5 Stars Sam Kim

This blend of 60/40 shiraz and cabernet is an absolute stunner. "A stunning offering" so says wine critic, Sam Kim. Sam tastes wines for a living so rest assured, he knows what's good. "The wine is stacked with blackberry, dark spice and cedar characters with hints of floral and dried herb notes. It’s powerful and opulent, displaying outstanding concentration and depth, together with velvety texture and firm tannins, ensuring its long, graceful development." Rated 96/100, taste a glass of this stunner and you'll see why.

Five Star Halliday Rated Producer

If we had to describe this wine in three words: Bold, confident and oh so delicious. The bouquet is inviting with red cherries and raspberries and that hint of spice that McLaren Vale is so well-know for. The palate displays excellent fruit intensity with wonderfully silky tannins. Bold, confident and oh so delicious. Whether you decide to save this for a few years or enjoy it tonight with a scrumptious steak, either choice is good.

Halliday Five Star Producer

It is with great pleasure, and pleased palates, that we offer you today the latest (and greatest) vinous endeavour out of South Australia. One that has both our greatest admiration and our mouths salivating. Having already wow’d Sir James Halliday and received an impressive 96 points, this parcel of vino magic is ready to conquer the ‘Fo. It’s a single vineyard wine that shows off the pedigree of Salomon Estate and the power of the terroir. Savoury, but not lacking fruit and powerful, but not lacking finesse. This is about as good as SA cabernet gets, and refreshingly, it’s from the dazzling Fleurieu Peninsula.

From ‘Les Dissedents’ range of Maison Ventenac, this 100% grenache is called Le Paria (the outcast). This references the Rhône variety being planted in Languedoc-Roussillon, where the producer believes that it thrives. Weighting in at a perfect 14%, the wine is surprisingly light-bodied, vibrant and full of life. No oak was used in the wine and the clarity of fruit is the result of this decision. Raspberries mingle with cloves and sour cherries with mineral notes. According to the producer, “these wines are uncompromising, chiselled, precise and direct.” We agree and so does Decanter Magazine, as this was included in its Top 100 Wines of the Year 2020.

Trophy Yarra Valley Wine Show

Not to boast, but when you win a trophy for your cabernet at the Yarra Valley Wine Show, you’re doing pretty damn well. Ya see, cabernet is the historic red grape of the region (pinot noir came along much later) and there are still some amazing examples being produced. Ask any winemaker in the Yarra about where their heart lies, and they’ll tell you it’s with cab sav. This one from powerhouse producer De Bortoli has seven years of age on it, making it perfectly ready to go. It’s medium-bodied with hints of allspice and cedar sitting alongside black currant, blackberry and some ridiculously silky tannins. We’d say that trophy is well-deserved.
