Why do we love this case?

This is the summit, mofo. The ‘Best in Class’ of the wine world. Wines beloved by the experts and novices alike. The wines that turned even the haughtiest of critics into star-struck fanboys and girls who mysteriously ‘forget to spit it out’ during a high-brow tasting panel. The concept behind this pack is pretty simple; there’s only one condition to entry - a 95 point or higher award. The vast majority need not apply. We already separate the wheat from the chaff here at the ‘fo. This is the artisan stonebaked masterwork that results.

Each case contains TWO bottles of each of the following:

McLaren Vale shiraz, yes, but lithe and vibrant. A more medium-bodied feel leaves room for the lively fruit flavours to sing, unshackled from big, beefy, old-school styles. Classic brambly goodness skates on a fresh sheet of acidity, with just enough grippy tannin to keep it grounded. Miraculously food-friendly, there’s all the ingredients here for an infamous dinner party red. The kind you and your mates are liable to enjoy a wee bit too much of in an evening.

It’s safe to say this wine is a ‘shoe-in’. Haselgrove Cul Stor is SO popular with our thirsty mofo members. At its core, we have all the plush dark berries, plums and chocolatey goodness that you’d expect from McLaren Vale. But the blend of cabernets is what lifts this drop way above entry level, firm tannins and a liveliness on the back palate provide wonderful length and serious structure; perfect to pair with your good old fashioned Sunday roast lamb with all the trimmings.

Well, we bet it's not every day that you see a pinotage pop up. In fact, it's only once in a blue moon that we see them! Beyond the fun, Willy Wonka-esque label, you'll be greeted with a wine of equally playful intentions. It's supple, with an intense depth of flavours. Jumping between fantastic florality, mocha and cherry aromas, you'll struggle to be bored with this in the glass. And with 99pts from the South African Wine Index, it's clearly got the local seal of approval.

This Barossa shiraz with six years of age is truly one of our faves. That six years is enough time to soften those tannins, letting the dark fruit profile sing. There’s also heaps of spice, pepper and earthiness, as you’d expect from a great red from this famed region. One of the Barossa’s best has blessed our mofo’s with another killer deal on another killer shiraz. Thank you very very much, Reis Creek!

Halliday Special Value Award

We would have to definitively say that South Australian shiraz rules over all. Perhaps we’re a little biased, but you put those vines amongst the rich soils and famed Aussie sun, magical things truly do happen. Pair that with the skill of Reschke's winemakers, and you’ve got a whole lot of value on your hands. Halliday would agree, giving this a Special Value Award alongside a 95pt score and a glowing write up to pair. Dark red fruits are complimented by red cherry, cranberry, with touches of allspice and pepper for a generous seasoning. It’s all you could ask for and more.

This cab-malbec from the Clare shows off a deliciously drinkable, and dare I say fun side to the region. Clare is famous for their deep, dark-fruited and structured reds and while this wine has depth and structure - it also has juicy red berries, floral notes and total smashability. Claymore don’t take themselves too seriously, making a collection of young-at-heart, but very well-made wines. If you like your cabernet with a bit more richness and fruit power, which malbec certainly delivers, this could be the wine for you.
